Stave Church

We had heard of these viking wooden churches from some documentary on tv and were determined to see one with our own eyes.  Luckily there was an "original" one that was transplanted in 1884 from Gol to the Norway Folk Culture outdoor museum in Oslo.  In fact it was on the same island as the viking ship museum.

Apparently this stave church was from the 12th century, but not all of it is original.  The paintings inside were from 1652 and there were parts from the 1884 move.  Still, the structure, carving and paintings were awe-inspiring.  They did not allow flash photos inside of the church so I really had to cranked up the ISO to get anything.
